Description
From the Early-Christian Necropolis, this Visigothic belt buckle presents a lyre-shaped silhouette decorated with nerves on the outside and a stylised snake that surrounds the plaque, on the inside of which a crocodile is depicted. It is the schematisation of the fable of the snake and the crocodile of the Physiologist, common in Byzantine gold-and silverwork.
