Description
Ceramic piece with white glaze inside. Of clear Islamic influence, it was made from a cylindrical vessel as a container and has low rim and rounded lip with a pinched spout. There are parallels of this ceramic type in the archaic thirteenth century pottery in the city of Barcelona. The interior contained oil or another fuel and a cord or wick came out of the pinched part of the rim; in this case, blackened remains of combustion can be seen. This ceramic type used for domestic lighting has been classified broadly around the fourteenth century. The piece, despite being broken, consists of practically all the fragments. This has also been documented in other artefacts in the mid-fourteenth century level at this site and demonstrates the sudden destruction of ceramic elements and other items at a time when they were fully effective. Those objects were in use.
