Description
Circular polished marble token. It has engraved decoration on one side, consisting of a cross / star with eight arms that occupies the entire surface; signs of wear and continued use. Discoidal pieces or tokens are frequent in the Iberian habitats; they are made of different materials (common , imported or hand-made pottery, stone) and they generally range between 2 and 10 cm in diameter, the most common being 2-4 cm. It has been speculated about their functionality: weight units and division, quantification units, transaction units ... However, the most likely is that they were related to leisure activities or hobbies. This piece comes from the Iberian city of Molí d'Espígol; the context of the find is not known.
