Description
A biconical jug with a short concave rim, low foot and two handles in the form of a tape. It is decorated with wine-coloured paintings: sloping lines around the rim, three bands that mark the union of the rim with the body, and on the back it has a broad frieze containing a cut serpentine plant motif starting with filaments, tendrils and small leaves, under a thin band of four lines, and horizontal strokes on the handles. On the outer surface and the inner part of the rim, an orange slip was added after the painting, characteristic of late Ilergete ceramics. Painted jugs in the late period are not very careful products; however, they reached the category of tableware. This vessel appeared almost on the surface at El Molí d'Espígol associated with a small piece of Campanian B pottery. Both are exceptional finds in that place; the jug is the latest one to be unearthed there. It is dated between 75 and 25 BC.
