Description
Percussor made with a fragment of reindeer antler. It was used to make flint utensils, either by direct percussion or with the indirect percussion technique, where an intermediate element or punch was placed on top of the flint core and then struck with a larger and heavier percussor. Evident traces of its use can be seen at the base of the antler. The find of this hammer in Serinyà, in a Solutrean level, does not necessarily imply the presence of reindeer in the vicinity of the site - although the climate at that time was cold - because the possibility that it would have been imported should also be considered.
