Description
Silver or blue ceramic serving dish made in Barcelona. It is included in the series "of the finger", so called by the characteristic decorative motifs on the rim of the dish, made with a brush but which look like finger marks. The central motif, on the other hand, consists of a double flower that fills much of the inner surface of the dish, showing a certain tendency to the horror vacui so characteristic of the baroque. On the wing, two small holes were made before it was fired to hang the dish on the wall when it was not in use. The manufacture of the dish required a double firing. In the first, the ceramic was baked, then, by immersion, a layer of varnish was applied that provided the white base on which the blue decoration was painted. That was done with cobalt oxide and depending on the concentration, a more or less intense blue was obtained. Finally, the second and definitive firing, which at the same time fixed the varnish and decoration, was carried out.
