Description
Harpoon formed by two pieces stuck together, a row of four barbs on the body, made of deer antler. The proximal end is sharpened. Two fragments stuck together. Made of antler. The section is generally quadrangular, although it varies depending on the area. The proximal end is sharpened and the distal is oval. It is irregular in its longitudinal development, with a tendency to twist, particularly in the proximal part. The base is rounded and as a fastening element it is thinned in the form of a double bevel. The four barbs have a convex distal edge and a concave proximal side, while the section is flattened. Regarding its function, harpoons have been traditionally considered fishing equipment, but they are also useful for hunting. The function of barbs is to prevent the release of the projectile. Harpoons with rows of barbs are typical of the Magdalenian IV and V, with an age of approximately 14,000 years. It forms part of the Bosoms collection and entered the museum in 1953.
