Description
Bronze axe with sides, straight and slightly concave heel and convex cutting edge. The sides are an element that reinforced the attachment to a wooden handle. Bronze metal tools were doubtedly a technological breakthrough given that they are very strong, can be sharpened and the metal can be recycled by smelting it to make other tools. The cave where the axe was found was well known and visited from the early twentieth century. It was explored by Josep Colominas from the Institute of Catalan Studies in 1923. The discovery was made in 1966 by a team of speleologists from the Mountaineering Centre of Catalonia, who picked it up on the surface.
