Description
Incineration set from the necropolis of Can Missert (Terrasse) consisting of a funeral vessel where the remains that had been burnt on a funeral pyre or ustrinum were deposited, and a plate that covered the recipient. These elements were placed in a grave apparently without any signalling element. The necropolis where this tomb was found was excavated by Pere Bosch Gimpera and Josep Colominas in 1916 and 48 tombs were documented in a much larger site. The study of the necropolis has helped systematize the evolution and chronology of the emergence of urn fields in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula and the introduction of a new mortuary ritual: cremation. The dish MAC BCN-010 935 was used as the cover of a funerary urn. It has a frustoconical shape with a convex base and bevelled lip. The beginning of a possible handle with a circular cross-section can be seen near the rim. The outer surface is poorly maintained. The urn MAC BCN-010936 is globular in shape with an open straight rim and flat base with a not very pronounced foot. The decoration is based on shallow parallel grooves at the top of the vessel.
