Description
A group of ten swords with sheath, three sheaths alone and a single sword, of the La Tene type, a model which derived from the gladius hispaniensis, which was the sword used by most Roman troops from the end of the second century BC. In fact, this type of weapon that was more versatile and could be used as a weapon to stab and cut on both sides, was quickly adopted by legionnaires in contact with the warriors of the different peoples in the Iberian Peninsula during the Second Punic War. These specimens, which were probably kept in a chest or trunk of wood, were found in a house near the Stoa, in the Neapolis of Ampurias. It seems that they would have been a set of swords in a shop, an armory, located near the centre of the Neapolis.
