Description
Large hemispheric pan with an in-turned rim and flat T-shaped lip. It has four small vertical tubular handles that join under the edge, not symmetrical, and a spout under the edge, for pouring. The surface is reddish brown and polished. The fabric is reddish black and not very consistent in the centre of the break, with small quartz and mica inclusions. In 1981, at the time of the discovery of the tomb, unique for the Montbolo-Chassey grave goods it contained, few other archaeological contexts were known in which Montbolo and Chassey pottery coincided, illustrating the latest phase of the initial Middle Neolithic (4300-3900 BC). The tomb at Balsa de Fonteta signified an advance in the discovery of this late phase of the Montbolo group, which today is well known.
