Description
Straight iron sword (MAC GIR-41045) with its sheath (MAC TURN-41046), of a continental model artificially altered. The weapon is almost complete as it is only missing the tip of the tang, but the sheath has lost much of dorsal face. It presents a bell-shaped mouth and suspension loop with an oval appendix, fixed with rivets. Most notable is that it is intentionally bent toward the middle, forming an angle of about 120 degrees, so it cannot be unsheathed. The tang was also twisted. The small perforation observed in the centre of the sheath also has been identified by X-ray in the blade of the sword. It is slightly oval and around the metal it forms a slight bulge, indicating that it was clearly made by pressure.
