Description
Glass balm jar, blown in a double mould, and dark blue in the form of a pineapple. It is missing the rim and part of the neck. This type of balm jar was characteristic of the craftsmen of Syria and Palestine, as they made these types of glass containers associated with different types of fruits or with the representation of faces very similar to the masks used in the theatre. The balm jar, dating to the 1st-2nd centuries AD, was found in Empúries (L'Escala, Alt Empordà). These jars used to contain cosmetics such as scented and ointment oils, which were frequently used by women and men, as they became an essential element for body care and hygiene in everyday life.
