Description
This fibula found in Empúries (l'Escala, Alt Empordà) comes from one of its necropolises and is dated to the 7th century BC. It lacks a piece of the arch, but the needle, the double spring and the foot is retained. It has incised decoration and the foot topped with a flattened circular button or appendix. The fibula is of Etruscan origin and, due to its date, prior to the founding of the Greek colony of “Emporion”. It has been thought that it could come from contacts with the Etruscans before the Greeks arrived.
