Description
Incomplete plate in grey marble from the Pyrenees, most likely from Saint-Beat. The three fragments preserved were found scattered in the southern sector of the Greek city of Emporion. The inscription is in capital letters and consists of 12 lines of text, in two halves, with the same text written in Latin and Greek. It is a dedication by a so-called Numas, probably a merchant, to the Alexandrian divinities of Isis and Serapis. The transcription of the text, once restored, should be as follows: “To Isis and Serapis, Numas, son of Numeri, originally from Alexandria, out of devotion had the temple built, the statues and the porticos" [Isidi et Sera]pi aedem / [simulacr]a porticus / [Numas N]umeni f(ilius) / [Alexandri]nus / [pietatis op]us faciu/[ndum cur(avit) // [EIEIDIS]ARAPI /[STO]ANNOYMAS/ NOYME]NIOYADE/[XAN]DREYS / [EYS]EBES · EPOEI
